Gentle Giant is a British progressive rock band from London, England, active between 1970 and 1980.

He is known for the complexity and sophistication of his melodies, which borrow from different genres such as progressive rock, classical music, medieval music, jazz and rock.

All members of the group, apart from the first two drummers Martin Smith and Malcolm Mortimore, are multi-instrumentalists.

The band members' goal was, according to lead singer Derek Shulman, to "push the boundaries of contemporary popular music, at the risk of being unpopular."

Indeed, sales never matched the commercial peaks of other contemporary groups such as Pink Floyd, Yes or Genesis, and Gentle Giant is often considered one of the most experimental groups of the 1970s.
