Tool is an American progressive metal band from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 1990 by vocalist Maynard James Keenan, guitarist Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey and bassist Paul D'Amour. The latter left the group in 1995 to be replaced by Justin Chancellor of the British group Peach shortly before the recording of their second album, Ænima.

This group borrows psychedelic rock the ability to create a full and bewitching atmosphere. They released their first studio album, Undertow (1993), followed in 1996 by a second album, entitled Ænima, which made the band known in the alternative metal scene.

They became even more popular with the release of Lateralus (2001) and 10,000 Days (2006). A fifth studio album, titled Fear Inoculum, was released on August 30, 2019, thirteen years after the previous one.
